NEWS
7th Framework programme (FP7) approved by the European Council.
The Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7) was adopted by the Council on 18 December 2006. The programme started on 1 January 2007.
The total budget for FP7 is €50.521 billion, and the programme will run for seven years.

First open Calls in FP7.
On 22 December 2006 the first Calls for the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) opened, among them the FP7-HEALTH-2007-A Call in Theme “Health” of the Specific Programme “Cooperation”.
Deadline is 19 April 2007 at 17:00 (Brussels local time).

EVENTS
Workshop on "Environment" and "Health" to take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 15 and 16 January 2007.
A workshop on environment and health entitled 'Air quality research needs and opportunities in the EU Seventh Framework Programme of Research (FP7)' will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 15 and 16 January 2007.
The workshop will look at the current state of scientific knowledge and provide a forward looking perspective on emerging challenges and opportunities for policy-relevant research on the health effects of air quality.

Germany's FP7 launch event to take place in Bonn, Germany, on 15 January 2007.
EU Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik and German Minister for Education and Research Annette Schavan will open a national kick-off event for the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) in Bonn, Germany on 15 January 2007.
The two-day event, entitled 'The Seventh EU Research Framework Programme - Europe on its way to the top', is expected to attract some 2,000 participants from Germany and abroad.

Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe taking place in Shanghai, China, on 16 and 17 April 2007.
The Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe programme is a European Commission initiative aiming to promote partnership, joint ventures and collaboration between emerging European Biotech SMEs and their development agencies promoting the European biotech industry and the Chinese life science industry.
The programme will host its next event on 16 and 17 April 2007 in Shanghai, China.

Launch of the European 7th Framework Programme - National Information week to be held in Bern, Switzerland, from 16-19 January 2007.
On Wednesday, 17 January 2007, the FP7 Launch Event at the Paul Klee Museum in Bern will have its focus in “Health”. Stéphan Hogan from DG Research (EC) will be presenting the Health calls for 2007. NCP Sasha Hugentobler will cover the Health support measures. At 14:30 the Lausanne based SME Ayanda Biosystems will be presenting their experiences coordinating a STREP (SLIC) and participating in a further EU running project.

A workshop on the "Health", "Food, agriculture and biotechnology" and "Environment" themes of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) will take place in Namur, Belgium, on 18 January 2007.
Representatives from the European Commission's Research Directorate General will deal with topics, such as financial aspects of FP7, rules for project submission, project evaluation, and details of the first calls in the "Food, agriculture and biotechnology”, "Health" and “Environment" work programmes.

A workshop on the “Health” theme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) will take place in Rome, Italy, on 23 January 2007. The event will outline the key areas to be addressed under FP7's “Health” thematic priority.

Bulgarian FP7 launch event to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 31 January- 1 February 2007.
Bulgaria's Ministry of Education and Science will hold a conference to launch the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) in Sofia on 31 January and 1 February 2007.
The event will feature speakers from the European Commission, and during the opening session prizes will be awarded to the most successful researchers, institutions and NCPs under FP6. Participants from all EU Member States and the Western Balkan countries are invited to take part in the event. The registration deadline is 15 January 2007.

IRC Brokerage event at MEDTEC 2007 taking place in Stuttgart, Germany, on 28 February and 1 March 2007.
IRC Stuttgart-Erfurt-Zürich (Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum) will organise the 3rd consecutive IRC Brokerage Event at MEDTEC 2007 in Stuttgart, Germany, between 28. February and 1 March 2007. Companies, research institutes & universities operating in the medical devices sector and interested in transnational co-operation are invited to participate in the brokerage event.
The MEDTEC Show itself takes place in Stuttgart from 27 February to 1 March 2007.
