NEWS

Event to launch FP7 on 7 March 2007, in Brussels, Belgium.
On 7 March 2007 representatives of the German EU Presidency and the European Commission will open a major event on European research in Brussels, marking the launch of the Seventh Framework Programme 2007-2013 (the main EU instrument to support research). The overall aim of the event is to raise the level of political commitment to European research, expand media coverage and increase public awareness.

Well-received SMEs go LifeSciences training at the International Conference on Biomedicine on 12 June 2006, in Rome, Italy.
On 12 June 2006, on the occasion of the International Conference on Biomedicine in Rome, SMEs go LifeSciences organised a trans-national training for SMEs and researchers on European Funding Opportunities for Health research. An overview of funding opportunities has been given, starting with funding of international research through the coming 7th Framework Programme (FP7) up to funding of trans-national research within the ERA-NET frame!

Promotion of SMEs go LifeSciences at the partnering meeting of the FP6 initiative NBCC on 7-9 April 2006, in Birini, Latvia.
The SMEs go LifeSciences' support activities were very well received during the third partnering meeting – "Biotechnologies for Knowledge Based Bioeconomy" on 7-8 April 2006, in Birini, Latvia, organised by the FP6 Specific Support Action NBCC. The mission of this initiative is to create synergies for virtual networking and strengthening of the European Research Area (ERA) in Central Europe. The aim of the meeting was to facilitate the creation of cooperation between Latvian and European research organisations and SMEs in the area of biotechnology for further successful participation in FP6 funded projects.

EVENTS

The 1st International MUGEN Conference on "Animal Models for Human Immunological Disease" will take place on 10–13 September 2006, in Athens-Kavouri, Greece.
MUGEN, a European Network of Excellence of 24 leading immunology organisations, is bringing together their scientific and technological experts in the field of murine models for human immunological disease. On 10–13 September 2006 top experts will come together in Athens-Kavouri, Greece, to bring the most up-to-date information on current research and technology as well as on prospects for future developments in this field.

BIOSPAIN-BIOTEC2006 will be organised on 18-20 September 2006, in Madrid, Spain.
Biospain-Biotec2006, the international biotechnology convention, is taking place on 18-20 September 2006, in Madrid, Spain. Through plenary sessions, scientific sessions, round table discussions, workshops and company presentations an effective business platform for all professionals in the field of biotechnology shall be established.
In the frame of Biospain, madri+d IRC organises the Biospain 2006 Technology Transfer Day on 20 September 2006. This TT Day will be structured in bilateral meetings for bio-entrepreneurs, biocompanies and researchers who want to find good opportunities for business.

Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe, to be held on
18-19 September 2006, in Beijing, China.
The Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe initiative aims to promote partnership, joint ventures and collaboration between the Chinese life science industry and emerging European Biotech SMEs and development agencies. On 18-19 September 2006 a delegation of about 40 top European life sciences businesses, pharmaceutical companies, development agencies and investors will, among others, promote a dynamic & professional image of the European biotech sector to a relevant Chinese audience

3rd International Conference on Oxidative Stress, Skin Biology & Medicine taking place on 21-24 September 2006, on the island of Andros, Greece.
The study of oxidative stress, involved in all skin diseases, in relation to skin pathophysiology and the prevention and therapy of skin disorders by antioxidant substances or natural products with antioxidant properties has developed a growing interest in the last years. The conference will comprise regular sessions of oral and poster presentations as well as special sessions on topics of current importance

BioTech Forum + ScanLab to take place on
26-28 September 2006, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The BioTech Forum Conference and Partnering + ScanLab Exhibition will take place on 26-28 September 2006 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Topics such as Biologics, CNS Therapeutics, CNS Biomarkers, Predictive toxicology, Medical devices and Diagnostics will be dealt with, with speakers from the life science industry's leading companies.

SMEs go LifeSciences is planning a joint workshop together with the ETI Passport, introducing, among others, the 7th Framework Programme and the services provided by these two supporting initiatives.
