Achievements of SMEs go LifeSciences 2 years after its kick-off.
The second project year of SMEs go LifeSciences was dedicated to providing best service for SMEs and researchers interested in one of the remaining Life Sciences related calls of the 6th Framework Programme (FP6). The project consortium focussed primarily on the 4th call for proposals in thematic priority 1 "Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health" but as well on Life Sciences related topics, such as thematic priority 2 "Information Technologies" and thematic priority 3 "Industrial Technologies".

Information and preparation of Life Sciences SMEs and researchers for the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) will be important parts of the work during the third and last project year of SMEs go LifeSciences.

New web journal "scandinavian lifescience" highlighting current topics of special interest in life sciences.
A new web journal called "scandinavian lifescience" is presenting interesting topics with special interest in life sciences. The current issue is publishing, among others, an article about a "Stem cell breakthrough curing Parkinson’s disease".

EVENTS

Preparing the participation of SMEs within the 7th Framework Programme: Research today for tomorrow's market.
A training session will take place in Oeiras, Portugal, on 25 May 2006, dealing with the best ways of enabling SMEs to participate in FP7. Two workshops will be dedicated to two important thematic areas for Portuguese research centres and industry: "Health" and "Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology".

An exhibition of posters from different entities, aiming to show ongoing projects to companies, will be held throughout the morning.

FP7 Workshop for SMEs' & Researchers' participation in Theme 1 "Health" and Theme 2 "Food, Agriculture & Biotechnology".
In collaboration with the Union Wallonne des Entreprises, the Brussels Enterprise Agency is organising on 30 May 2006 a workshop to present FP7 to SMEs and researchers interested in participating in life science related projects in themes 1 "Health" and 2 “Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology". The workshop will take place in Wavre, Belgium, and will be a good opportunity for actors in life science to make contacts already for the coming Framework Programme 7 (FP7).

International Conference on Biomedicine.
During 12-14 June 2006 an International Conference on Biomedicine will take place in Rome, Italy, with the topic "Genes and Environment: from molecular medicine to clinic medicine".

An FP7 training, organised by SMEs go LifeSciences, a Scientific conference and a Technological Transfer Day will offer a wide range of interesting activities.

European Funding Opportunities for Biomedical Research will be dealt with, providing up-dated information on the contents of the theme "Health" of FP7, and giving an overview on further funding opportunities.
The Scientific Conference will aim at facing the key problems for health protection, introducing the Biotechnology Platform.
Workshops and an International Technological Transfer Day, MedInRome, will provide the opportunity for active participation and partnering in biomedicine.

Experts on the EU-Framework Programme from SMEs go LifeSciences will be present in order to discuss potential project ideas and to give support in finding appropriate R&D partners in Europe.

BioDevice Partnering.
A partnering event in healthcare will take place during 13-14 June 2006 in Edinburgh-Scotland, United Kingdom, addressing companies interested in partnering technologies or products, co-marketing arrangements, or tapping into the European financing network.
BioDevice Partnering will offer innovative medical technologies and next generation products, potential partners in the drug/medtech/nanotech/biomaterial industries and networking opportunities.

NanoBio-Europe' 06: International congress on nanobiotechnology.
NanoBio-Europe'06 is going to take place in Grenoble, France, during 14-16 June 2006, presenting the most recent international developments in the field of nano-biotechnology and nano-medicine. The NanoBio-Europe'06 conference will provide a platform for interdisciplinary communication, new international cooperation and joint projects to participants from science and industry.

International brokerage event GIM2006.

An international brokerage event will take place on 27 June 2006 in Prague, Czech Republic. The brokerage event is part of the 10th International Congress on the Genetics of Industrial Micro-organisms, which will take place on 24-28June, 2006.
The international brokerage event is an excellent opportunity to meet other innovative companies and research organisations active in the field of industrial use of microorganisms through personal one to one meetings to discuss a possible cooperation, research collaboration, licence, production or distribution agreements.
