OPEN CALLS

Specific Call launched on 15 February 2006 to promote the participation of partners from Targeted Third Countries (TTC) in projects for which contracts are already signed or under negotiation. Closing date is 16 May 2006.

A Specific Call was launched on 15 February 2006, a so-called INCO Top-up Call in TP1 "Life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health", to promote the participation of partners from Targeted Third Countries (TTC) in projects for which contracts are already signed or under negotiation. Closing date is 16 May 2006.

Call for additional contractors launched by the IP ReProTect. Closing date is 6 April 2006.
ReProTect, an Integrated Project (IP) founded by the EU within the 6th Framework Program (FP6), has launched a call for new partners for the sub-area "Implantation" in order to develop in vitro tests that are able to provide relevant information of chemical effects during the phase of embryo implantation.

NEWS

SMEs go LifeSciences preparing for the 7th EU-Framework Programme (FP7).
SMEs go LifeSciences has been a successful European initiative under FP6 since March 2004, supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) interested in Life Sciences research cooperation. The consortium of 28 partners from 26 countries is now both preparing its SME-clients for FP7 as well as supporting SMEs in successfully getting involved in running FP6 research projects. Transalpine agreement to foster Biotechnologies in Europe.
A partnership agreement has been signed between France, Switzerland and Piedmont (Italy) to create a unique zone of transalpine excellence in the sectors of bio- and medical technologies. This partnership will permit to build synergies, exchange best-practices and facilitate access to resources, scientific expertise and high-tech equipment, bringing together different participants in this sector.

EVENTS

Conference on Balkan medicine towards FP7 to be held in Bucharest, on 3-5 May 2006.
Between 3 and 5 May 2006 the Conference on Balkan medicine towards FP7 will take place in Bucharest, Romania, organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, the National Authority for Scientific Research, the Ministry of health and the European Commission. The conference’s aim is to identify regional priorities for research and to promote regional potential for research in the area of Life Science and Health for FP7 of the European Community. A special event dedicated to SMEs under the "Health" theme will take place on 3 May 2006, i.e. "Biomedical research driven by Balkans' SMEs in relaunching the Lisbon Strategy".

Life Sciences Partnering China&Europe - 1st European Forum to take place in Munich, on 9 May 2006.
Life Sciences Partnering China&Europe, a European Commission initiative, is aiming to promote collaboration between the Chinese life sciences industry and emerging European biotech entrepreneurs/SMEs. On 9 May 2006 a partnering event will take place in Munich, Germany, supporting European SMEs to develop collaborations with Chinese life sciences organisations.

8th International Congress of the Cell Transplant Society to be held in Milan,
on 18-20 May 2006.
The 8th International Congress of the Cell Transplant Society will be held in Milan, Italy, during 18-20 May 2006. The Transplantation Society serves as the principal international forum for the advancement of both basic and clinical transplantation science throughout the world.More information can be found here.

BioMed Israel 2006, the 5th national life science and technology week, is going to take place in Jerusalem, Israel, during 29-31 May 2006.

The European Commission, the Technology Platform Innovative Medicines Initiative and SMEs go LifeSciences are going to organise an info-day on 29 May 2006, providing relevant information on the next 7th Framework Programme (FP7), the EU's chief instrument for funding scientific research and technological development over the period 2007 to 2013.
