"The Sleeping Beauties Workshop will be held in Berlin on 18-20 May 2008, at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics.

SLEEPING BEAUTY is an FP6 NEST project which is learning from nature in order to develop novel concepts for cell preservation based on mechanisms by which model organisms tolerate desiccation and/or remain metabolically inactive for long periods. Five model organisms from diverse taxonomic phyla, were studied, using modern tools of global gene expression profiling, proteomics and metabolic analyses. This is a multi-disciplinary project crossing the traditional boundaries of ecology, physiology, biochemistry, protein chemistry, developmental and molecular biology. The workshop in Berlin will present some of the final findings of the project.
